Mayo Clinic will sustain services and coverage related to gender transitions despite the rule recently issued by the Department of Health and Human Services and supports efforts to address discrimination in all forms.
On Friday, June 12, the Department of Health and Human Services issued a rule that would remove protections for gender identity and sexual orientation under the nondiscrimination provision of the Affordable Care Act. The rule allows health care workers, hospitals and insurance companies that receive federal funding to refuse to provide or cover services related to gender transitions for transition-related care.
Mayo Clinic strongly supports the LGBTQ community and will continue its commitment to care for patients undergoing gender transition.
